A high alpha variety with a good aroma. The bitterness is soft, thanks to the low cohumulone content. In late additions, Rakau gives aromas of tropical fruit, such as peach and passion fruit.
Works great in IPAs where you want a soft hop profile. Also suitable for hoppy lagers, Belgian ales, or aromatic American wheat beers.
Developed from New Zeeland's HortResearch in 2007. The variety was originally grown back in the 1970s where hops were grown from the older Smooth Cone hop variety. The hop variety was not released until 1983 and was then re-launched in 2007 under the name Rakau.
Character: Very clear fruitiness where you can distinguish above all fresh apricot and passion fruit with notes of pine.
Origin: New Zealand
Typical values:
Alpha acids (correct alpha value is printed on the label): 9 - 13 %
Cohumulone: 24 - 28 %
Total oils: 1,8 - 2,2 ml / 100 g
Storage stability (alpha acids): Very good
Possible replacements: Summit, Amarillo
