Chinook is a very popular American variety. Gives a crisp bitterness and flavors of pine and citrus.
Commonly used in pale ale, barley wine, winter ale, porter and stout. Excellent as a bittering hop in modern lagers.
Chinook was introduced in 1985 and quickly became popular among American craft brewers. Among the reasons for it's success was it's unique aroma and grapefruit flavors. Chinook is a cross between Petham Golding and USDA 63012.
Character: Grapefruit, citrus and pine.
Origin: USA
Typical values: Alpha acids (correct alpha value is printed on the label): 10 - 14 %
Cohumulone: 29 - 35 %
Total oils: 1,5 - 2,7 ml / 100 g
Storage stability (alpha acids): Good, 68%-70% alpha acids remaining after 6 months at 20°C
Possible replacements: Organic Chinook, Northern Brewer, First Gold, Perle, Galena, Nugget, Columbus/Tomahawk, Target.
